Upper crust rock ‘n’ roll
Crimson Crowbar, comprised of Dave Shelton and Frank Simes, will alternate their acoustic guitars with an electric variation when they form their four-man British Classic Rock cover band from 8:45 to 11 45 p.m. Saturday at Mozambique.
Commonly known as the “rockin’ acoustic duo,” Simes and Shelton are famed for nailing classic rock covers like no other, and also perform their own “blue” melodies like “Upland” and “Love is Gone to Stay.”
The pair will be joined Saturday by drummer Steve “Stevie D.” DiStanislao, who most recently toured with Pink Floyd guitarist, David Gilmour, and has also played with artists like David Crosby, Graham Nash and David Bowie, and bassist Joe Karnes, who has performed with the Velvet Underground.
The band will perform rock classics by legends including Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, David Bowie, the Doors, Pink Floyd and the Who.
Shelton said he and Simes look forward to four-piece shows when they have the opportunity to create magic with other “truly gifted” musicians.
“Our [renditions] are pretty true to the originals,” he said, “but then we take them someplace with our own mind-blowing musical combinations.
Simes agrees that the band “” both as a duo and quartet “” has something extraordinarily special.
“I haven’t heard anyone do some of these covers like we do them [referring especially to those of Led Zeppelin],” he said. “Between our split guitar parts and harmonized vocals, we make it really full.”
Crimson Crowbar has written and produced three albums, “Gag,” Angry Inch” and “Dopalicious,” under their own label, Doink Records, and are now currently working on their own individual material.
