Baylor 4, UC Irvine 3

WACO, Texas — A two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in the winning run from second in the second game of the three-game Baylor Classic Saturday at Baylor University.

After striking out the first two hitters, Cory Hamilton allowed an infield single and a walk, before Dustin Dickerson singled in the game-winner.

Eric Deragisch went two for four with one run batted in to pace UCI’s six-hit attack against two Baylor pitchers.

Brock Bardeen and Ryan Fisher hit solo homers for UCI.

No. 5-ranked UCI fell to 6-4 and No. 6-ranked Baylor is now 9-2.

UCI starter Christian Bergman allowed two earned runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings but was not involved in the decision.

UCI faces South Alabama today at 9 a.m.

IRVINE — Sophomore Kim Barnes scored 18 points, making seven of nine field-goal attempts, to pace the Anteaters in the Big West Conference home game Saturday.

The win helped UCI (7-22, 4-12 in conference) earn the No. 7 seed in the eight-team conference tournament that begins Wednesday at the Anaheim Convention Center.

UCI will again face Cal State Fullerton (8-19, 5-11), the No. 6 seed, at 2:30 p.m.

UCI led, 30-21, at halftime and shot 51.1% from the field for the game, while holding the Titans to 33.3% shooting.

BASEBALL

Irvine Valley 0

IRVINE — Sophomore right-hander Brett Wallach allowed two hits in eight shutout innings to pace the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference road game Saturday.

Sophomore third baseman Drew Hillman went two four with a home run and two RBIs for OCC (12-7, 3-2 in conference).

IVC fell to 8-10, 1-4.

COSTA MESA — The Lions swept the Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader at home Saturday.

Keegan Featherstone, Jason Schaniel, Brett Siegmund and Nicholas Akins all homered for the Lions (4-10, 2-8 in conference).

San Diego Christian is 7-9, 2-8.

Michael Anderson allowed four hits and one earned run in six innings in the Game 2 win.

TENNIS

COSTA MESA — The Vanguard University men’s and women’s teams each dropped 7-2 decisions to visiting Fresno Pacific in Golden State Athletic Conference matches Saturday.

Florian Lemke won at No, 1 singles for the Lions’ men’s team.

Both Vanguard teams are 5-4, 3-4 in conference.
