Jefferson earns Academy League’s top hoops honor

Brethren Christian’s Jeff Jefferson has been named the Academy League Most Valuable Player for boys’ basketball in recent voting by league coaches.

Jefferson, a senior guard, averaged 16.5 points, four rebounds and 7.6 assists per game for the Warriors.

He helped lead Brethren Christian (22-6) to the Academy League title and the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division V-A playoffs, where the Warriors lost in overtime to California Academy of Math and Science.

Also earning first-team honors for Brethren Christian were juniors Austin Loeb (13.3 points, 10.6 rebounds per game) and Austin Wenger (14.7 points per game).

Sophomore Daniel Healy made the second team, and senior Christien Cazarez was honorable mention.

Brethren Christian’s Jon Bahnsen was named Coach of the Year.

In girls’ basketball, Warriors junior Stacey Helfer was a first-team All-Academy League selection, and teammates Kendall McDonald and Rebekah Rudd made the second team.

The Brethren Christian girls were 12-12 overall and finished in fourth place in league.
