NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors’ No. 1 doubles team of Cameron Chase and Daron Arnold swept, dropping just two games, which proved huge in the tight nonleague win Thursday.

Craig McKennon and Greg Brostek, Newport Harbor’s No. 2 doubles team, won twice, as did the No. 3 duo of Jason Cernius and David Jung.

Sage Hill’s No. 1 singles player Alex Koeberle swept, including a 5-7 win over Daniel Lee. The Lightning dropped to 5-4

Josh Tuz won twice at No. 2 singles for Newport Harbor (2-1), which plays at Laguna Beach today at 3 p.m.

Singles – Lee (NH) lost to Koeberle, 5-7, (sub) T. Arnold (NH) lost to Kurzweil, 2-6, Lee (NH) lost to Astorino, 2-6; Tuz (NH) lost, 3-6, won, 6-2, 6-3; Heimstaedt (NH) lost, 2-6, 5-7, 6-7 (5).

Doubles – Chase-D. Arnold (NH) def. Wang-Yun, 6-0, def. Manolakas and Berchtold, 6-2, def. Batten-Apramian, 6-0; McKennon-Brostek (NH) lost 0-6, won 6-2, 6-3; Cernius-Jung (NH) lost, 3-6, won, 6-4, 6-2.

COSTA MESA — Cheyanne Flores went two for three with a home run and three RBIs for the Eagles in the nonleague game Thursday.

Amy Hartwell went two for two with two walks and an RBI, Jill Beck went two for four, laying down two perfect bunts and Kassie Stratton doubled for Estancia (7-2).

The Eagles will play a doubleheader at Newport Harbor Saturday at 10 a.m.

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior Camden Nicholson shot one-under-par 34 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings in the nonleague match at Newport Beach Country Club Thursday.

Freshmen Jonathan Keedy shot 36, Michael Moorhead carded a 38, while Brian Mull and John Davenport both finished at 39 for CdM (6-1). It was the Sea Kings’ lowest team score (six-over) at the NBCC course in Coach Mike Starkweather’s 12 years of leading the team at CdM.

The Sea Kings will compete in the Mesa Verde Tournament Monday.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Brothers Ryan and Jake Knapp both shot even-par 35 to share medalist honors for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League match at Meadowlark Golf Course Thursday.

Storm Hagnen (38), Ryan Burns (40) and Jordan Young (40) also contributed to the win for Estancia (4-3, 2-0 in league), which will be the host of the Mesa Verde Tournament, and 18-hole event that features 30 teams.

IRVINE — Sophomore Jared Hoffman shot three-over-par 39 to earn medalist honors for the Lightning in the nonleague match at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course Thursday.

Ahmed Eltanami shot 41 and Steve Choi had 44 for Sage Hill (4-2), who plays against Oxford Academy Tuesday in an Academy League opener at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Costa Mesa def. Sante Fe

Ryan Thompson had 13 kills and five blocks for the Mustangs, who won the nonleague match, 25-6, 25-15, 22-25, 25-15, Thursday.

Garrett Fraizer added 15 kills and 13 digs, Jeff Dye 12 kills and nine digs, Corbin Randell seven kills and three blocks, Ben Lefebvre 46 assists and Andy Feldman 21 digs for Costa Mesa (2-1).

Loara def. Estancia

ANAHEIM — Eagles senior outside hitter Eric Mickelson had eight kills against host Loara, which won the nonleague match, 25-11, 25-17, 25-23 Thursday.

Junior setter Tyler Sullivan had 15 assists and three blocks and junior outside hitter Kohl Jones finished with seven kills for Estancia (0-5), which begins play today in the Orange Country Championships.

The Eagles play against Marina at 3 p.m. and Segerstrom at 5 p.m.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Newport Harbor 70,

Esperanza 66

PLACENTIA — Junior Elizabeth Eddy won two events and also contributed to the victorious 400-meter relay for the Sailors in the Sunset League meet at Valencia High Thursday.

Eddy won the 100 in 12.9 seconds and the 200 in 26.3. Newport Harbor swept the 200 with senior Lillie Berry taking second and sophomore Mary Yeager finishing third.

Junior Kirby Burnham won the long jump (16 feet, 4 inches) and the triple jump (33-10). She was also second in the 100 hurdles (16.1). Berry won the 400 in 1:01.

Junior Melissa Hancock was first in the high jump (5-0) and senior Erica Pearson was second in three events, the 800 in 2:25.1, the 1,600 in 5:17.2 and the 3,200 in 11:30.4.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Newport Harbor 63

PLACENTIA — Senior Danny Ward won two events and he was part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team for the Sailors in the Sunset League meet at Valencia High Thursday.

Ward won the 110 hurdles in 17.1 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 42.5.

Junior Cecil Whiteside won the discus (165-4) and the shot put with a personal-best 57-6. Senior Justin Adams completed three personal records, finishing third in the long jump (21-0 3/4 ), second in the high jump (6-0) and third in the triple jump (42-10 1/2 )

Senior Jake Dawson won the 3,200 in 9:45 and sophomore Ryan Andrews was second in the shot put (54-0).

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Sage Hill 16, Esperanza 8

PLACENTIA — Hayden Furey scored six goals for the Lightning in the nonleague game at Valencia High Thursday.

Sally Mace scored five goals and Jordan Team added two goals for Sage Hill (2-2). Goalie Walker Moore recorded 10 saves and Abby Means scored her first goal of the season.

LAKE FOREST — Senior Amy Youngman scored four goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Thursday.

Sarah Colgate and Corey Cano played well defensively for CdM (5-2, 3-1 in league), which received a key contribution from Ally Brahs, a freshman who leads the team in groundballs with 10.
