Anteaters’ Miller earns Big West weekly tennis honor

UC Irvine senior Wes Miller, a Corona del Mar High product, was named Big West Conference Player of the Week in men’s tennis Friday.

Miller went 4-1 in singles as he led the Anteaters to a 3-2 record on the week. In doubles, Miller and sophomore partner Khunpol Issara went 5-0 at the No. 1 position helping the Anteaters win four of five doubles points on the week. The pair upset the No. 38-ranked doubles team of Filip Zivkovic and Evan Schleining of Portland 8-4.

This is the first time Miller has won the award in his career. He is the third Anteater to win the award, joining freshmen Steven Henderson and Fabian Matthews, also a former Corona del Mar standout.

UCI plays host to Princeton at 10 a.m. and Denver at 2 p.m. today. Both matches are at the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club.
