COSTA MESA — The Lightning swept in doubles, winning five games at love in the nonleague match Thursday.

The doubles teams of Andrew Kurzweil and Alex Manolakas; Greg Berchtold and David Fayngor; and Sean Batten and Kevin Marshack each swept for Sage Hill (8-4), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division IV.

No. 1 singles player Ely Zaidler swept for Estancia (2-7).

CORONA DEL MAR — Ryan Peyton and Shane Korber both swept in singles for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Thursday.

Junior David Fink subbed in for CdM (7-2, 2-0 in league) and earned a big 7-5 win over Irvine’s No. singles player James Gea. The Sea Kings are ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

LOS ALAMITOS — The Sailors’ No. 1 doubles team of Daron Arnold and Cameron Chase swept in a Sunset League opener Thursday.

Josh Tuz won twice at No. 2 singles, as did Eric Heimstaedt at No. 3 singles for Newport Harbor (4-3, 1-0 in league).

COSTA MESA — Senior Jason Rosello won four events for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League meet at Estancia High Thursday.

Rosello won the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 42.7 seconds, and the 800 (2:09), 3,200 (10:47) and he ran the anchor on the 4x400 relay team (3:42.5).

Thomas Guzowski won the shot put (40 feet 10.5 inches) and discus event (119-8).

Costa Mesa improved to 2-0 in league.

LOS ALAMITOS — Benny Ward, Justin Adams and Cecil Whiteside won two events each for the Sailors in the Sunset League meet Thursday.

Ward won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.9 and 300 hurdles in 44.3. Adams took first in the triple jump in 40 feet, 2 inches and the high jump in 6-0. Whiteside won with 175-10 throw in the discus and a 55-9 mark in the shot put. Also, sophomore Mark Sakioka won the pole vault (14-0), Scotty Figueroa the 800, Jake Dawson the 1,600 and Michael Taylor the 3,200.

Laguna Hills 53

LAGUNA HILLS — Sebastien Welch won three events for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Thursday.

Welch won the 800 meters in 2:05.8 the 1,600 in 4:43.6 and the 3,200 in 10:51.7. Blaine Bolus won the long jump (21-9) and triple jump (44-9 3/4 ). Jeff Jones took first in the 110 hurdles in 16.0 and Alex Swigert won the 300 hurdles in 41.6.

Academy League

cluster meet

IRVINE — The Sage Hill School boys won the first of two cluster meets this season, held Tuesday at Concordia University.

Junior Kevin Schaefer won the 100 meters (10.9 seconds), the 200 in 22.5 and tied a school record in the pole vault (10 feet), while also anchoring the victorious 400 relay to pace the Lightning boys.

The Lightning boys also finished fourth at the Ontario Christian Small Schools Invitational Saturday at Chino High. That meet included an estimated 30 schools.

Godinez 19.5

COSTA MESA — Teagan LaBare set a personal-best 10.8 seconds in the 100 meters in the Orange Coast League meet at Estancia High Thursday.

She won the 200 (27.2) and anchored the 4x100 (53.3) and the 4x400 relay teams (4:28.2) to first-place finishes.

Tatiana Williams placed first in the long jump (14-8) and triple jump (34-0).

Costa Mesa (2-0) plays host to Calvary Chapel at Estancia High Thursday at 3 p.m.

Los Alamitos 60

LOS ALAMITOS — Melissa Hancock, Kirby Burnham and Katey Thompson won two events each for the Sailors in the Sunset League meet Thursday.

Hancock won the high jump and long jump, Burnham the triple jump and 100 hurdles, Thompson the dicus and shot put.

Sophomore Mary Yeager finished second in the 400 in 1:01.1, improving her personal best by two seconds.

Laguna Hills 44

LAGUNA HILLS — Claire Schmidt, Kim Condino and Sami Stern won two events each for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Thursday.

Schmidt won the 200 meters in 26.1 and the 400 in 60.4, while Condino took first in the 800 in 2:19.0 and 1,600 in 5:09.7

Schmidt was on both winning relays and Condino was on the 1,600 relay. Sami Stern won the shot put and discus.

Academy League

IRVINE — The Sage Hill School girls finished third in the first of two cluster meets this season, held Tuesday at Concordia University.

Junior Jackie Dion paced the girls, winning the 400 meters in 1:01.1 and the high jump (4-10).

Additionally, Sage Hill finished second, one-half point behind Maranatha, at the Ontario Christian Small Schools Invitational Saturday at Chino High.

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sea Kings’ Brian Mull sank two birdies and had just 10 putts in his medalist round, a one-under-par 34 in the Pacific Coast League match at Newport Beach Country Club Thursday.

Camden Nicholson (36), Michael Moorhead (37), and John Davenport (38) also scored for CdM (9-1, 2-0 in league), while Jonathan Keedy and Josh Starnes both finished at 42.

SEAL BEACH — Sailors sophomore Marcus Kiel shot one-under-par 35 to earn medalist honors for the third straight time in the Sunset League match at Old Ranch Country Club Thursday.

Mychael Clark (36), Zach Eddy (39), Erickson Klein (42) and Travis Russell (44) also scored for Newport Harbor (7-3-1, 0-1 in league).

NEWPORT COAST — Senior outside hitter Bayle Smith had 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the Lightning in a 25-15, 25-23, 25-12 nonleague win Thursday.

Harlan Webster contributed 10 kills for Sage Hill (6-9).

Trent Friedmann had six service aces.

The Lightning open Academy League play at home Tuesday against Oxford Academy at 5 p.m.

LOS ALAMITOS — Junior center Hayden Furey scored three goals in the Lightning’s nonleague game at Laurel High Thursday.

Jordan Team had a goal and an assist for Sage Hill (3-3).

SOFTBALL

Newport Harbor 4, Westminster 0

NEWPORT BEACH — Sophomore Alex Bauer pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Sailors in the nonleague game Thursday.

Karina Veit had a double and scored a run, while Amanda Legault scored two runs for Newport Harbor (6-8).

GIRLS SWIMMING

Savanna 87, Estancia 82

COSTA MESA — Emily Kaplan won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke for the Eagles in the nonleague meet Thursday.

Upeka Keenawinna won the 100 freestyle and Tyler Andrews won the 100 backstroke for Estancia.
