COSTA MESA — Sophomores Brett Wallach and Beck Wheeler, as well as freshman Kris Martin, all drove in five runs to help the host Pirates win their 11th straight in the Orange Empire Conference game Saturday.

The OCC trio all went three for six as the hosts rallied from a 12-6 deficit to pull even in the fourth inning. OCC then scored four in the seventh to overcome a 13-12 deficit and freshman Brett Williams pitched 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn his fourth win in as many decisions. Williams allowed just one hit, walked three and struck out one.

Scott Hong was three for four with one RBI and Drew Hillman also had three hits for the winners (20-7, 11-2 in conference), ranked No. 1 in Southern California.

Mykal Stokes, (two RBIs), Ryan Sheeks (one) and D.J. Arellano had two hits for OCC, for which Ryan Dunn drove in two runs.

Riverside is now 13-15, 4-9.

OCC visits Santa Ana, ranked No. 2 in Southern California, in a conference clash Tuesday at 2 p.m.

COSTA MESA — The host Lions dominated the Golden State Athletic Conference match at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center Saturday.

Sophomore Nils Iwdal won 12 of 13 games at No. 5 singles to exemplify the strong play from the hosts, who improved to 12-4, 7-5 in conference.

Junior Florian Lemke won 12 of 14 games at No. 1 singles for the Lions, who also received singles wins from Fredric Sandberg, Tino Brodar, Sandro Buchar and Blake Lamberth.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Vanguard 8, Biola 1

COSTA MESA — Junior Betyel Tesfa and sophomores Kateryna Malakhova and Anna Valingsten all won all 12 singles games to lead the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Saturday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

Tesfa and sophomore doubles teammate Brittnie Furuvald won, 8-0, as Vanguard improved to 10-5, 8-4 in conference.

Senior Hana Jurcovicova also won in singles for the Lions.
