PROVO, Utah — The top-ranked Anteaters hit a season-worst .185 and were outblocked, 15.5 to 11.5, as the No. 6-ranked Cougars pulled off a 30-24, 20-30, 30-18, 30-28 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation upset at Smith Fieldhouse Thursday.

Freshman Carson Clark paced the visitors (19-4, 14-3 in the MPSF) with 17 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Kevin Wynne had six kills and hit .667 and added seven block assists.

Outside hitters Cole Reinholm and Cory Yoder came off the bench to each add six kills apiece. Brent Asuka had a match-high 13 digs.

BYU (15-9, 11-6) was led by Andrew Stewart’s 15 kills followed by Kent Tuttle with 10 kills. Futi Tavana added nine kills, while Russell Lavaja led the Cougars with seven total blocks.

The teams will meet again tonight at 6 at Smith Fieldhouse.

BASEBALL

Concordia 13, Vanguard 8

COSTA MESA — Nicholas Akins went three for five with a home run and two runs batted in to pace the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Concordia (15-16, 11-14 in conference) took a 6-0 lead in the second inning and led, 13-2, after five.

Vanguard is 15-16, 11-13.
