For being in Congress for 22 years, what has Rep. Dana Rohrabacher done? (“Rep. showed grace,” March 26) Nothing. Legislation introduced, passed and enacted. Nothing. We have taxation without representation from do-nothing-Dana. He deserves to be snubbed.

Trust, Amigos need say in interpretive center

Paul Arms’ commentary (“Collaboration needed for center,” March 26) was right on the mark.

The conservancy board consists of the builders of homes on the Bolsa Chica, Hearthside homes and others who have not been in the trenches for the last 20 years as have the Bolsa Chica Land Trust and the Amigos de Bolsa Chica.

Paul Arms is the president of the Trust. Our group and the Amigos should be included in deciding the best location for the interpretive center. The Trust and the Amigos feel it is wrong to cement over park land to build an interpretive center. A center at the conservancy-proposed site would destroy the open space.

Why put a building on the parkland telling about the wildlife animals and plants that are present on the Bolsa Chica now? Whoever is in charge of planning the center should certainly include Trust and Amigos representatives in the planning stage. We have been fighting to preserve open space for many years. Let us share the responsibility of a site for the interpretive center.

Taxes are the root of our economic problems

Pay up! You have taxes due! Sales tax, property tax, service tax, income tax. We pay all this. But where is it going? Is it going to your local schools? Is it going to your mother’s welfare? Or is it going to executives as bogus bonuses?

Our tax dollars are being given to people for their unnecessary personal use. Why do you think we’re walking through the back door of recession when we have a stimulus package that’s giving us an inch of relief? Bailout money is given to companies that have failed. Funding for the money-crunching, tax-guzzling organizations will make our taxes worse. Stocks stockading, companies inflating, our taxes are being wasted.

The Orange County Transportation Authority had its budget cut and now it’s having a fare evasion while also decreasing service. If our taxes are going up, why are our government services going down?

Why is Starbucks charging so much? Taxes. Why are our bills going up? Taxes. Proposition 7 — all about taxes. Imagine our taxes if that proposition passed.

The FDIC has lost a record of 16 banks in less than three months. Last year it lost 25. We are losing money and we are being forced to conserve? We understand we must do this, but taxes are making no difference.

President Barack Obama has put in effect a large stimulus that none have been relieved by. And now, he’s making veterans pay for their insurance. Now, Obama is giving us health care. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Don’t be greedy.
