Conservancy meets on ‘The Tell’ photo mural

Mark Chamberlain and Jerry Burchfield will give a pictorial presentation of “The Tell” at the 6 p.m. Monday dinner meeting of the Laguna Canyon Conservancy.

“The Tell” was a photographic mural as long as two football fields, built of plywood sheets representing the outline of the adjacent hillside.

When completed, it was covered with more than 43,000 photographs, contributed by thousands of people. It was located along Laguna Canyon Road, about a mile east of the El Toro Road intersection.

The Tell helped in efforts to save Laguna Canyon from development. It was instrumental in attracting some 8,000 people to “The Walk,” on Nov. 11, 1989, a march that helped convince officials to keep the canyon wild.

Dinner tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members and may be paid at the door with prior reservations. To reserve a seat, call (949) 494-6465. Leave your name, phone number, and number of reservations.
