SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Freshman pitcher Andrew McCormack earned his second save of the season, inducing a groundout with the bases loaded to secure the Corona del Mar High baseball team’s 3-2 Pacific Coast League win at San Juan Hills Friday.

Freshman Brent Lawson produced an RBI double to put CdM ahead, 2-1, in the top of the seventh. And, sophomore Mitch Gardner singled in Lawson for a 3-1 lead.

Junior starter Brian Hurst pitched six innings, allowing three hits, while striking out four and walking two for CdM (6-5, 4-1 in league).

San Juan Hills dropped to 5-6, 0-5.

The Sea Kings open play in the Beach Pit Classic today at 11 a.m., against Godinez at CdM.

ANAHEIM — Senior outside hitter Bayle Smith finished with 27 kills and four service aces in the Lightning’s 23-25, 25-10, 25-21, 20-25, 15-9 Academy League victory Friday.

Harlan Webster contributed 18 kills and 21 digs.

Jesse Xiao had 51 assists for Sage Hill (8-10, 2-1), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division V.

CORONA DEL MAR — Dylan Davis had 11 kills and six blocks for the Sea Kings in their 25-23, 25-12, 25-17 Pacific Coast League win Friday.

Weston Nielsen added six kills and two blocks, while Joey Cooper (five kills, two blocks), Andy Morrow (four kills) and Connor Bannan (24 assists) also contributed for CdM (13-5, 2-0 in league), ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

The Sea Kings have the week off for spring break and will play at Beckman April 14.

LAGUNA BEACH — Andrew Dorne won two events for the Lightning in the nonleague meet Friday.

He won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 7.70 seconds, and the 100 butterfly in 55.99. Both finishes were CIF Southern Section Division III qualifying times.

Nick Wan won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.58, a CIF consideration time, while Josh Lee won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.06) for Sage Hill, which plays host to Oxford Academy Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at Corona del Mar High in its Academy League opener.
