Mustangs, Eagles make up much of all-league team

Estancia High sophomore Erin O’Neil was named the Orange Coast League Defensive Player of the Year in girls’ soccer after helping the Eagles win a share of the league championship.

Five Costa Mesa players made first-team all-league after the Mustangs finished as league champs for the seventh straight season.

Under first-year coach Jessica Gatica, Estancia went 11-8-5, 4-0-4 in league, splitting the league title with rival Costa Mesa (10-7-7, 5-1-2).

Estancia reached the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs. Costa Mesa made the first round of the playoffs.

Estancia players on the first team are freshman Heather Flores (10 goals, four assists), sophomore Jackie Freiberger (11 goals, one assist), sophomore Alissa Scheafer (eight goals) and senior Cori Chapin (one goal).

Players making it for Costa Mesa are seniors Jessica Rubright, Dana Gentling, Kristina Roche, Ayla Medina Brooke Urmson.

Estancia junior Allyson Wallace, junior Nushin Tasbihchi, senior Natalie Plascencia and senior Abby Scheafer made the second team.
