Anteaters’ Bibona earns Big West pitching honor

UC Irvine junior baseball standout Danny Bibona was named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday.

The left-hander shut out then-No.-1-ranked Cal State Fullerton for eight innings Friday, allowing just four hits and striking out five in a 2-1 win for the then-No. 8-ranked visitors.

He earned his fifth win in six decisions this season and extended his scoreless-innings streak to 14, dating back to a conference-opening win over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on March 27.

Bibona’s 2.30 earned-run average leads the conference and his 52 strikeouts in 47 innings pace the Anteaters staff. He has allowed just 34 hits and has held opponents to a .211 batting average.
