COSTA MESA — Andres Gonzalez struck out four in his complete-game shutout for the Eagles in a consolation semifinal of the Beach Pit Classic Tuesday.

The shutout was the second straight for Estancia pitchers.

Josh Dominguez produced an RBI fielder’s choice that scored Ryan Cherney, who singled, in the sixth inning for Estancia (5-9). The Eagles’ Troy McClanahan doubled.

Estancia will play host to Garden Grove today at 11 a.m. The Eagles were supposed to play against Costa Mesa, but agreed to switch opponents because the teams play in the Orange Coast League.

COSTA MESA — Nick Pederson struck out eight in six innings to pick up his second win of the season in a consolation semifinal of the Beach Pit Classic Tuesday.

P.J. Maloney went three for three and had a stolen base, while Tyler Peterson was one for three with an RBI double in the third inning when Costa Mesa (9-5) scored three runs.

The Mustangs were slated to play in the consolation championship against crosstown rival Estancia today, but because the teams play in the Orange Coast League, they will face different opponents. Instead, Costa Mesa will play host to Century at 11 a.m.

CORONA DEL MAR — Andrew Dorne, one of four swimmers competing for the Lightning, won two events in the Academy League opener Tuesday at Corona del Mar.

Dorne won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 54.91 seconds and the 100 free in 49.78. Dorne was also on two winning relays. Josh Lee, Julius Lee and Danny Lee were also part of the winning 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams.
