COSTA MESA — The Pirates dominated in the Orange Empire Conference match at OCC Thursday.

Yannick Lepage, playing at No. 4 singles, swept at love, while No. 2 Bradley Fisher, an Estancia High product, and No. 6 Nick Stuart dropped just one game in their victories for the Pirates (12-5, 6-4 in conference).

Lauren Minguez won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, while No. 3 Felix Demiro and No. 5 Kevin Saenz dropped just three games each.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

MISSION VIEJO — Kalin Eshelman won at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, but it still wasn’t enough for the Pirates who were edged in the Orange Empire Conference match at Saddleback Thursday.

No. 1 singles player Brittany Bass won, 6-3, 6-1, and No. 2 Melissa Boyer also won in singles, 6-1, 6-2 for OCC (11-4, 9-3 in conference), which dropped to third place in the OEC behind leader Saddleback and second-place Fullerton.

Bass and Boyer teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, while Eshelman paired with Hannah Mancino to win their No. 2 doubles match, 8-4.

COSTA MESA — The Lions faced two pitchers that both recorded complete-game victories for the No. 22-ranked Mustangs in a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday.

Senior third baseman Jason Schaniel was two for four with an RBI and a double in the first game for Vanguard (15-20, 11-17 in conference).

In the second game, Lions junior first baseman Joshua Manzano went two for three with a run scored and senior second baseman Ethan Gentry had an RBI.

The Master’s improved to 29-14, 18-10.
