Arcadia Invitational

ARCADIA — Corona del Mar High’s Kim Condino, Claire Schmidt, Sarah Keddington and Melanie Powers finished with second best time in the nation in the distance medley relay, 12 minutes, 6 seconds, coming in second behind Esperanza Saturday night.

Condino ran the 1,200-meter leg in 3:41, Schmidt went 57.8 in her 400, Keddington 2:18 in the 800 and Powers 5:03 in the 1,600.

Corona del Mar finished fourth last year and won the event for four straight years prior to that.

Arcadia Invitational

ARCADIA — Newport Harbor High junior Cecil Whiteside finished eighth in the discus with a mark of 173 feet, 6 inches Saturday at Arcadia High.

Whiteside is No. 8 in the nation, according to dyestatcal.com. His personal record is 187-5.

In the shot put, Whiteside, who recently verbally committed to Cal to play football, finished 15th at 51-6.

Sophomore Ryan Andrews finished sixth in the shot put at 50-2, in the open division earlier Saturday.

Newport Harbor seniors Michael Taylor, Joel Betante, Scotty Figueroa and Jake Dawson finished 21st out of 27 teams in the distance medley relay Saturday night. The Sailors quartet finished in 10 minutes, 42.21 seconds.
