Professor discusses fishing town’s development

A new exhibit in UCI’s library will take visitors through the transformation of a Chinese fishing town into a global financial center.

The university library’s spring exhibit: “Shanghai’s Two Faces: Cosmopolitanism and ‘Glocalization,’” will feature photos, maps, books and news articles to document China’s development.

An opening reception for the exhibit is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Langson Library. The exhibit will be on display through October. For more information, call (949) 824-4976. The display is free and open to the public.

The opening reception will feature a talk by UCI professor Jeffrey Wasserstrom, who has studied China for more than 20 years and is co-founder of the popular “China Beat” blog and comments on the county for the Huffington Post and the Nation.
