LONG BEACH — The Anteaters clinched at least a share of the inaugural Big West Conference regular-season championship by holding off the host 49ers Thursday.

Julia Fancher had two goals to pace the No. 9-ranked visitors (20-8, 4-0 in conference), who received nine saves from Morgan Vickers, a Newport Harbor High product.

Long Beach State, ranked No. 16, fell to 8-16, 1-3.

MEN’S TENNIS

Orange Empire Conference Tournament

CYPRESS — Laurent Minguez and Brad Fisher advanced to the quarterfinals in singles and doubles for the Pirates Thursday at Cypress College.

All quarterfinalists qualify for the Southern California Regional Tournament.

Minguez won twice Thursday, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0, as did Fisher, the Estancia High product, who won, 6-3, 6-1, and 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles, Minguez and Feliz Demiro won 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals. Fisher and Yannick Lepage won 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to move on to today’s quarterfinals.

Kevin Saenz and Brian Nguyen won twice to advance, 6-4, 6-0, and 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

BASEBALL

Point Loma Nazarene 11, Vanguard 10

COSTA MESA — The host Lions scored four times in the ninth and had the potential tying run at second in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Point Loma (31-9, 24-6), ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 4-3 to hold off the Lions (16-22, 11-19).

Joshua Manzano was three for four, while Brett Halstead and Keegan Freeman had two hits apiece to aid Vanguard’s 13-hit attack.

Eric Kryzsiak hit a two-run home run in the fifth to erase a 6-4 Point Loma lead.

Chris Carls and Jordan Oseguera each worked scoreless relief innings for Vanguard.
