LAKESIDE — Junior Jacob Wood hit a grand slam in the eighth inning for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Eric Krzysiak and Derek Craddock both had two hits, one run and one RBI for Vanguard (18-25, 12-21 in conference).

COSTA MESA — The visiting Rustlers opened a 6-0 lead through three innings and held on to upset the first-place Pirates in an Orange Empire Conference game Thursday.

OCC freshman starting pitcher Calvin Drummond gave up six earned runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings to absorb the loss.

Sophomore second baseman Ryan Dunn went two for four with a home run and two runs batted in to pace OCC (27-11, 15-5), ranked No. 1 in the state. Mykal Stokes was two for four with one RBI and Ricky Stokes was two for four for the Pirates.
