LONG BEACH — Orange Coast’s Riki Yano sparkled with his third individual win and a state record in the 1,650-yard freestyle, helping the Pirates to the state title at Belmont Plaza Saturday.
The Pirates wrapped up the third and final day with two new state records, separating themselves on the first day of competition and never looking back taking this year’s title by 263 points. Santa Rosa, Ventura, Diablo Valley, and Golden West College finished 2-5 respectively.
Yano shattered a 29-year-old record in the 1,650, winning in 15 minutes, 18.45 seconds, which was lower than the 15:22.62 set by Bill Babashoff of Golden West.
Yano, a freshman, was also a part of OCC’s 4x100 free relay team that set a state record, finishing in 3:01.21. He also won the 200 free (1:37.08) and 500 free (4:23.52). Eric Crismon, Kyle Thorsness, a Costa Mesa High product, and Daren Brubaker were also on the relay team.
The OCC women did not have any winners on the final day and finished third with 438.5 points behind first-place Santa Rosa (578) and Sierra (526).
WOMEN’S WATER POLO

STOCKTON — The third-seeded Anteaters scored the final four goals of the game to defeat the No. 2 seed in a semifinal of the inaugural Big West Conference Tournament Saturday.
With the victory, UCI will meet fourth-seeded UC Santa Barbara in today’s championship game at 3:45 p.m. The Gauchos upset top-seeded Cal State Northridge, 6-5, in sudden-death overtime.
The 10th-ranked Anteaters (22-9), trailed, 8-6, late in the third quarter before taking control of the game against No. 9 UC Davis, outscoring the Aggies, 3-0, in the fourth quarter.
Ashling Taylor, a Newport Harbor High product, tied the game, 8-8, to begin the fourth-quarter scoring for UCI. Gianna Rossi hit what proved to be the game-winner with 4:35 remaining and Kat Plummer added an insurance goal on a power play with 1:32 left.
Taylor and Cortney Collyer led the Anteaters with two goals each and Lauren Davis had six saves in goal.

LA JOLLA — Freshman Golde Ibia led UC Irvine with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles Saturday.
Ibia recorded a time of 14.38 as Central Arizona’s Kierre Beckles won the event in 14.07.
Sanmisola George, another UCI freshman, placed third in the 200 in 25.12 and senior Samantha Costantini finished third in the 1,500 in 4:37.86. Teammate Meryl Follosco was fifth in 4:41.35.
Chloe Fata placed fifth in the 800 in 2:14.75 and Shelby Pock was eighth in 2:15.03. Alisha Misiaita finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 50 feet, 6 3/4 inches.
Kelly Collins was sixth in the 400 hurdles (65.43), Natalie Nguyen finished seventh in the triple jump (37-5 1/4 ) and Jenny Lee placed eighth in the javelin throw at 115-4.
Freshman Charles Jock led the UCI men’s team with a third-place finish of 47.90 in the 400 and Oliver Plattner was fifth in 48.54.
Colin Hacker placed fourth in the 800 in 1:52.54 and Bryan Lopez finished 10th in 1:56.18. Rex Nelson, a Newport Harbor High product, was seventh in the 1,500 in 3:59.58.
George Hernandez was 10th in the 200 in 22.26 with Joe Pearson placing 11th in 22.38. Trevor Wightman finished 10th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.50.

COSTA MESA — Nicholas Akins and Brett Siegmund homered and Richard Jessup threw a seven-inning complete game to help the host Lions win the second game and salvage a split in the Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday.
Akins was three for four with one run batted in, after going two for five in the opener.
Vanguard is now 19-26, 13-22 in conference.
Westmont is 16-30, 12-23.

RIVERSIDE — The No. 1-ranked and host Lancers hit five home runs to sweep a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday.
Sarah Howe hit a home run and was three for four with two runs batted in in the first-game loss for the Lions (27-24, 8-16 in conference).
Cal Baptist improved to 50-4, 21-3.

Ojai Valley Tournament
OJAI — Orange Coast had Laurent Minguez, as well as two doubles teams, lose in the Round of 16 Saturday.
Minguez and Felix Demiro, the No. 16-seeded duo in the men’s community college doubles division, nearly upset the top-seeded team of Doug Edwards and Jason wall, losing, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. The Pirates lost a match point in the second set.
Brad Fisher and Yannick Lepage also lost in the Round of 16.
Minguez lost to the No. 6 seed, Joaoa Noguiera, 6-2, 6-4.
Fisher, an Estancia High product, was eliminated in the second round.
