Four locals in OC All-Star football game at OCC

Newport Harbor High wide receiver JB Green, quarterback Andrew McDonald and defensive back Michael Helfrich and Corona del Mar defensive back Dillon Norton will be playing for the South in the 50th Orange County North-South All-Star Football Game for seniors at Orange Coast College on July 10.

Green, McDonald and Helfrich played vital roles to the Sailors claiming a share of the Sunset League championship. Newport Harbor finished 7-3, 3-2 in league.

Norton’s versatility led the Sea Kings to a runner-up finish in the Pacific Coast League and the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Southern Division playoffs. CdM finished 10-3, 3-1.

Green, the Sunset League Co-Offensive Back of the Year, will attend USC and try to make the team as a walk-on player. He finished with 12 touchdowns, seven as a receiver with 53 catches for 735 yards.

McDonald, a first-team all-league pick, threw for 1,697 yards and 15 touchdowns, completing 66.7% of his passes.

Helfrich, a first-team all-league pick, finished with 65 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Norton, a first-team all-league selection, returned three kickoffs and one punt for touchdowns. He averaged 17.3 yards per catch.
