Costa Mesa twins Serranos will be 49ers

Costa Mesa High seniors Cody and Dustin Serrano have committed to continue their water polo careers at Long Beach State, they said Wednesday.

“It’s perfect for us,” Dustin Serrano said. “It’s where we can work our way up to being the best we want to be.”

Both of the twins were first-team All-Orange Coast League players their senior years. Cody, a two-meter threat, led the Mustangs with 111 goals, while defender Dustin led the team with 110 steals and also had 100 goals.

They helped Mesa to second place in league, and a berth in a CIF Southern Section Division III quarterfinals. They were also both named to the Daily Pilot Dream Team.

The brothers are also both standout swimmers, but while with the 49ers they’ll focus on polo. Long Beach State doesn’t have a swimming program.
