IRVINE — It’s safe to say the Corona del Mar High boys’ volleyball team owns the Pacific Coast League.

The Sea Kings (21-7, 7-0 in league) captured their seventh straight PCL championship after sweeping Irvine, 25-20, 25-16, 25-21, Friday night. CdM, ranked No. 7 in CIF Southern Section Division I, has won a league title 10 out of the past 11 years, dating back to its days in the Sea View League.

This year in the PCL the Sea Kings have won every match in three sets except for one, when they beat Laguna Hills in four.

Against the Vaqueros, Dylan Davis and Weston Nielsen led the way with 15 kills each. Nielsen added seven digs. Joey Cooper had six kills, Danny Baker had eight digs and Connor Bannan amassed 44 assists.

The Sea Kings play host to University Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.

PLACENTIA — Sophomore outside hitter Cody Caldwell recorded 11 kills and 12 digs, helping the Sailors clinch at least a share of the Sunset League championship with a 25-14, 34-32, 25-21 victory Friday.

Newport Harbor (21-7, 8-0 in league), ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, can win its second straight outright Sunset League title with a victory at home against Edison (6-2 in league) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The Sailors play their final two league matches next week and then play at Corona del Mar in the Batttle of the Bay, a nonleague match Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Hamilton Day contributed seven kills and three blocks, while JB Green had nine kills and seven digs for the Sailors.

Connor Curry had 10 digs and one service ace.

Sage Hill def. Brethren

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Bayle Smith had 19 kills and nine digs to lead the Lightning to a 25-16, 27-25, 25-22 Academy League win Friday.

Jesse Xiao had eight digs and Harlan Webster had five kills for Sage Hill (14-11, 6-2 in league), which lost to the Warriors in five games earlier this season.

The Lightning, ranked No. 7 in Division V, plays host to Capistrano Valley Christian Tuesday at 5 p.m. for Sage Hill’s senior night.

Costa Mesa 8, Estancia 7

COSTA MESA — With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, the Mustangs’ Alex Krohnfeldt drew a walk on a 3-2 count that brought in the winning run in a Orange Coast League game at Costa Mesa Friday.

Kira Mitani, the winning pitcher, went three for four, while Sami Feinstein was two for five for Costa Mesa (12-13, 2-2 in league). Alosina Skipps was one for three with a two-run double.

Serina Jimenez scored the winning run. She led off the ninth with a single. Nikki Leather moved Jimenez to second after a sacrifice bunt. After a fly out, Costa Mesa drew two straight walks to set up the bases loaded dramatics for Krohnfeldt.

Amy Hartwell had two doubles and finished three for five with two runs and one RBI for Estancia (14-7, 2-2). Nicole Marlborough was two for six with two RBIs and Courtney Ulrich was two for four with one RBI for the Eagles, whose pitcher Cheyanne Flores had 11 strikeouts and 11 walks. Flores had a triple.

Costa Mesa and Estancia are tied for second in the OCL behind Calvary Chapel.

CORONA DEL MAR — Beau Attyah went three for four with an RBI to help the Sea Kings take sole possession of second place in the Pacific Coast League Friday.

John Doering who went two for four, doubled in Nick Couchot to start CdM’s six-run sixth inning. Couchot, who went two for three with an RBI and two doubles, led off the sixth with a double.

Mitch Sands was one for three with two RBIs and a double for CdM (12-9, 8-3 in league), which plays at University Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior midfielder Madison McHam finished with three goals in the Sea Kings’ nonleague game Friday.

Amy Youngman finished with three goals and three assists for CdM (12-5).

CdM’s Zoe Salaam made 16 saves.

Sally Mace scored four goals and Hayden Furey had three for the Lightning (4-8).

BOYS’ TENNIS

St. Margaret’s 2

SAN CLEMENTE — The Lightning swept in singles in the Academy League match Friday.

Alex Koeberle, Troy Astrino and Kevin Wang won three singles sets each for Sage Hill (14-6, 6-2 in league), ranked No. 3 in CIF Division IV.

The Lightning play their regular season match at Mater Dei Tuesday.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 19,

Huntington Beach 4

NEWPORT BEACH — Jake Turner and Zach Gagnon scored six goals each for the Sailors Friday.

Gagnon added an assist, while Tommy Hanrahan had three goals and seven assists for Newport Harbor (10-4), which qualified for the playoffs, which begin Tuesday

Cory Turner had goals and one assist. Goalie Jimmy Reed had just two saves, as he gained strong support from Dylan Reuter, Justin Faber and Lucas Gagnon.
