Ballroom dancing event to help local charity

Community leaders will vie in a ballroom dancing competition Saturday to benefit a local philanthropic organization.

The Assistance League of Newport-Mesa will hold Dancing for Tomorrow’s Stars beginning at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, 17900 Jamboree Road. Community leaders Sandy Segerstrom Daniels, Kristina Dodge, Mindy Stearns, Alexandros Bletsos, Tim Kashani, and Ralph and Sherry Opacic will compete to raise funds for deserving Newport-Mesa children.

Ed Arnold will emcee the event, which will be judged by 2008 dancer Julia Argyros, Paul Folino and Dean Robert Bassett. The event’s honorary chairwoman is Lula Halfacre.

Each community leader has been paired with a professional ballroom dancer, and has practiced for several weeks.

Tickets are $200 per person; online votes for favorite dancers are $10 each. To vote for a favorite dancer, alnm.org.
