The Rotary Club of Newport Balboa will celebrate its 70th anniversary of service to the Newport Beach community June 6 at the private Crevier Classic Cars Club in Costa Mesa, according to Victor Currie, the club’s president. Current and former Rotarians, foundation alumni, community leaders and their spouses are invited to join the 1930s-style celebration that includes dinner, dancing and a cash bar.

With a number of past Rotarians attending, it will be a chance to renew friendships and meet the current club members, according to Currie.

Reservations can be made by mailing your check for $70 per person to the club at P.O. Box 1944, Newport Beach, CA 92659 or by contacting event Chairwoman Lauren Reeves at (949) 878-2121 or by e-mail at lauren@prince-events.com. The Crevier Classic Car Club is at 365-B Clinton, Costa Mesa.

ROTARY HOSTS WINE-TASTING FUNDRAISER

Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club hosted a wine tasting on a recent Sunday afternoon at a beautiful Harbor Ridge home to raise funds to match the recent $200-million challenge grant made by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to finally erase polio, a crippling disease that is still alive, especially in Asia and Africa. Five Crowns graciously donated about 45 bottles of wines for everyone’s enjoyment.

Mary Cockley, club president, reminded the Rotarians and their guests of this important effort to raise more than $200 million from Rotary’s 1.2 million members around the world for the final assault on polio. Rotary District Gov. Roger McGonegal gave the group some facts and figures on how Rotary has over the decades excelled.
