“Come hungry, my friends” is the motto of Generic Youth’s Hamburger Wednesday (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) in Costa Mesa.

“We invite the neighbors and all our friends from the industry for a cheeseburger,” says Jeff Yokoyama, founder of Generic Youth. “The idea was to bring people together to see old friends and to meet new ones.”

Yokoyama fires up the barbecue outside his Westside Costa Mesa store and asks in return $5 or a donated used beach towel.

Generic Youth repurposes faded fabrics from beach towels and creates one-of-a-kind sweat shirts. Very green, just like Generic Youth’s entire line, an alternative to mainstream fashions and labels.

Choose from the Original Beach Towel Hooded Sweat shirt by Yoki, recycled fabric board shorts, silk-screened tees with irregular-placed pockets, fabric appliqués, even a flattened piece of plastic from a water bottle. There are also great tank tops, five-pocket jeans, chinos and a small group for girls.

Generic Youth, 1609 Pomona Ave., Suite A, Costa Mesa, is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (949) 351-5389 or go to www.genericyouth.com.

Pink Tie Ball ahead

The third annual Pink Tie Ball is coming up on June 6 at the Noguchi Garden at Pacific Arts Plaza in Costa Mesa. The Power of Pink affair will raise funds for vital local breast health services, and women without health insurance and unable to afford life-saving breast health care.

Guests will enjoy a pink-carpet arrival at sunset, and a champagne reception hosted by Bluewater Grill, and a three-course dinner catered by Crème de la Crème, with wines provided by Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery.

Wings of Hope handmade butterfly keepsakes created by local breast cancer survivors can be purchased to enter an opportunity drawing for gifts, including a diamond and pearl necklace donated by Winston’s Jewelers valued at $20,000.

A silent auction will feature unique experiences and items donated by local artists and galleries. Music is provided by Tino and his Orchestra, and a live auction features a custom-designed, hand-sewn couture gown, a week at a private oceanfront home in Hawaii and a chef’s table dinner at Mastro’s Steakhouse for 10.

Tickets for the Pink Tie Ball cost $350 or $3,500 for a table of 10. Wings of Hope handmade butterflies cost $100 each. Tickets and butterflies are available for purchase by calling (714) 957-9157.
