UC Irvine pitcher Danny Bibona has been named first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Bibona, a junior, is 11-1 with a 2.65 earned-run average heading into his start tonight in the top-ranked Anteaters’ NCAA Regional opener against visiting Fresno State, at 8.

The 6-foot, 160-pound left-hander went 7-0 in Big West Conference play to earn the conference’s Pitcher of the Year award. His consistent excellence helped UCI (43-13) claim its first Big West crown.

Bibona ranks fifth nationally in wins and 23rd in ERA.

He struck out 94 in 98 1/3 innings, while allowing 73 hits and walking 24. Opponents are batting .210 against him.

Bibona’s 21 career wins rank eighth in school annals.
