Baseball bows out in playoff opener

It was one-and-done for the Laguna Beach High baseball team in the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs.

The Breakers fell at San Dimas, 5-1, in the first round of the playoffs May 21.

San Dimas built a 5-0 lead after three innings and the Breakers (14-14), the second-place team from the Orange Coast League, couldn’t recover.

Jake Sganga, Mike Maxsenti, Chris Paul and Bret Barrett all had singles for Laguna Beach. Paul scored the lone run, on Maxsenti’s RBI single in the fourth.

Laguna Beach was making its first playoff appearance in nine years.
