Lemmerman honored

Corona del Mar High product Jake Lemmerman, a sophomore shortstop at Duke, was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Tournament team.

Lemmerman, the 2007 Newport-Mesa Player of the Year at CdM, was six for 12 with a team-best five runs batted in in three ACC Tournament games.

He had a home run, a triple and a double in the Blue Devils’ 10-4 win over No. 3-seeded Clemson on Friday.

Lemmerman, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound shortstop, hit .287 with seven home runs, 45 RBIs, 31 runs and 13 stolen bases in 16 attempts this season, helping the Blue Devils finish 35-24.

He is headed to the Cape Cod League for the second straight summer. He will play for the Wareham Gatemen.

Eison places seventh

EUGENE, Ore. — UC Irvine senior Julian Eison placed seventh in the high jump as competition opened Friday in the NCAA West Regional at Eugene, Ore.

Eison cleared 6 feet, 8 3/4 inches, as USC’s Manuela Wijesekara won the event in tying the regional record of 7-4 1/2 .

Three other UCI athletes competed in preliminaries Friday but did not advance to today’s finals.

Freshman Golde Ibia broke her own school record in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles as she finished third in her heat and 12th of 18 overall with a time of 13.67.

Freshman Charles Jock was third in his heat and 10th of 24 overall in the 800-meter prelims with a time of 1 minute, 49.69 seconds.

Junior Colin Hacker ran 3:50.93 in the 1500-meter prelims to finish 17th of 28 total runners.
