A Costa Mesa man who was shot Saturday while being robbed in his home knew his three South Orange County attackers, police said Monday.

Police arrested Sidney Poff, 27, and David Berry, 25, both of Mission Viejo, and Tiffany Harper, 25, of Laguna Niguel, on suspicion of attempted homicide and robbery after authorities said the three attacked 28-year-old Joseph Aguilar inside his home on Merrill Place.

“Everybody involved was acquainted with one another,” Lt. Paul Dondero said.

About 10:41 p.m. Saturday, Poff, Harper and Berry were inside Aguilar’s home when they tried to rob him, authorities said. It didn’t appear they forced their way in, Dondero said.

Police continue to investigate what transpired inside the house, but said what is certain is someone shot Aguilar in the hand with a handgun.

The bullet went through his hand and into his thigh, officials said. Dondero said the three were arrested driving away thanks to Aguilar’s description of their car.

Police did not find any weapons on the group, Dondero said.

Aguilar was taken to Santa Ana’s Western Medical Center and later released, police said.

The incident did not appear to be gang-related or a random attack, Dondero said, and police have yet to determine what, if anything, was stolen.

Poff, Harper and Berry are being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
