Ocean View Little League

Minor A division

Sidewinders 8, Rivercats 5: The Sidewinders defeated the Rivercats in a hard-fought game to move on to the Ocean View Little League Minor A Championship game this Saturday. The win also guaranteed the Sidewinders a spot in the District 62 Tournament of Champions.

The Sidewinders scored three runs in the top of the first and one in the second before the Rivercats got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the second. Tied 5-5 after four innings, the Sidewinders started the fifth with two walks before having a runner thrown out trying to advance to third. With two outs and a runner on second, Steven Kotkosky connected for a single to score Jacob Pitts and give the Sidewinders a 6-5 lead.

Jack Furry followed with a two-run home run to put the Sidewinders up 8-5. The Sidewinders were led by solid pitching performances by Jack MacDowell and Steven Kotkosky. At the plate, the Sidewinders were led by Furry and MacDowell, who each had two hits. Jake Cavazos had a hit and two RBIs, Tyler Warren had a hit and an RBI, and Max Kaplan, Jack Fults and Teddy Gregory each contributed hits in the victory.

Knights 6, Bulls 2: Great pitching by the Knights’ Ricky Masters, Jake Legg and Chase Foreman kept the Bulls to two runs. Legg had his first Little League career home run to dead center field and followed it up with a booming double.

Minor B division

Hooks 4, Look-Outs 1: The win over the Look-Outs moved the Hooks to the top four teams of the OVLL Tournament. The Hooks played great defensive fielding and held the Look-Outs to one run. Hooks players Jet Kelly, Jack Pelc, Sean Staley, Chandler Forth, Ben Quezada, Spencer Stanbridge, Jacob Hathcock, Sean Moore, Peter Carlson, Blake Beyett and Drew Guerrero pulled together to secure the win.

Juniors Division

Yankees 21, Dodgers 0: For five consecutive innings, the Yankees shut down the Dodgers. Starting pitcher Don Pierce pitched four scoreless innings for the Yankees, including nine strikeouts. Noah Taylor came in and closed out the game in the fifth inning.

Yankee players scored 21 runs on 19 hits. Contributing players were Kyle Johnson, Chris Kircher, Blake Kirkenslager, Alex Kircher, Kyle Williams, Kyle Crossen, Mario Duarte, Jaxon Graf, Michael Christensen, Nathan Ritter, Noah Taylor and Don Pierce. Key hits included a lead-off double by Johnson in the first inning, a lead-off triple by Kirkenslager in the second inning and a grand-slam home run by Pierce in the fifth inning.

Minor A division

Braves 9, White Sox 7: Jimmy Meehan hit a two-run home run to left, helping the Braves eek out the win in the first round of the playoffs. The game went into extra innings, each team scoring a run in the first extra frame. In the second extra inning, the Braves tied the score 6-6.

With Meehan next at bat, with two strikes on him, the crowd experienced something amazing as Meehan crushed a home run over the fence in left field, right to where his dad was standing. With a runner on base, that home run ended the game.

This was Meehan’s third home run of the season. Dominic Celano of the Braves also hit a two-run homer in the first inning, his third home run of the season as well.

Minor B division

Tigers 9, Dodgers 4: The Tigers started the playoffs really strong May 26, racking in three home runs. Keoni Macayan hit his first home run on the first ball pitched in one inning, and came back up to bat for the second time to hit a two-run home run. And it didn’t stop there. Connor Sandford, one of the smallest but fastest boys on the Tiger team, cracked his first home run of the season with a two-run home run.
