Sydney Langdon Leonard
1905 - 2009
Sydney Langdon Leonard passed away April 21, 2009 at the age of 104. He was born March 28, 1905 in Staten Island, New York. He graduated with a degree in agriculture from Cornell University.
At the time of his passing he had been living with his daughter Yvonne in Cuernavaca, Mexico for almost two years. He had recently been with his granddaughters Yvonne and Monique with her children Valentina, Julian and husband Hector celebrating his birthday. Sydney had resided in his beloved Corona del Mar for over fifty years.
Brief words cannot describe the breadth of his well lived life. He was an avid gardener and shared his beautiful easter lilies and summer tomatoes for years with family, friends and neighbors. He could literally fix anything and had every tool to accomplish any task. Sydney was a proud wise and disciplined man who enjoyed life, dancing, daily walks by the beach, reading, gardening and involved with the people he loved. He was remarkably healthy and walking until his passing.
He is survived by his only living brother, Dr. Edwin Leonard, daughters Yvonne Leonard and Janice Castro and grandchildren Yvonne Flores Leonard and Monique Flores Leonard and Jeffrey and Lisa Castro and two great grandchildren Valentina and Julian Cardenas Flores.
A church ceremony was attended by many in Cuernavaca. Friends and neighbors are invited to join in a celebration of his life Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 3PM to 6PM in “his cherished garden” in Corona del Mar. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
