CdM’s Bloom two for two in win

ANAHEIM — Corona del Mar High senior Michael Bloom helped the South team to a 9-0 win in the Orange County All-Star Baseball Game at Glover Stadium Tuesday night.

Bloom, who will play at Orange Coast College next year, went to two for two with two RBIs in the nine-inning contest. The second baseman is a first-team All-Pacific Coast League selection. He helped the Sea Kings reach the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs.

Dana Hills’ Eric Ehlow was named the game’s MVP.

UCI athletes compete

UC Irvine juniors Lauren Collins and Alisha Misiaita will compete in the NCAA Track & Field Championships, beginning today at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.

Collins (high jump) and Misiaita (shot put) compete in the qualifying round of their respective events today.

Collins broke her own school record in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 1 1/4 inches in winning the event at the Big West Conference Championships at Anteater Stadium May 16.

Her mark ranks third in the nation entering the NCAA meet.

Collins was recognized as UCI’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Misiaita holds the UCI record in the shot put with a mark of 51-9 3/4 , obtained when she won the event in the Cal/Nevada Championships at UCLA’s Drake Stadium March 29. Misiaita’s mark ranks No. 28 nationally.

The shot put final is Thursday and the high jump final is Friday.
