Note To Our Readers

Here in the newspaper business, we do a lot of mundane tasks — checking the wires, copying police logs, writing and editing the entertainment listings. But sometimes, we pride ourselves on being artists as well, and this week, we’re rolling out a new canvas.

The redesign of the Huntington Beach Independent follows a similar one by our sister paper, the Daily Pilot, and begins the same week as our other cohort, the Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot. As you can see from scanning this page, our fonts are different and our teasers are right at the top to let readers know what’s inside the paper. We also have more space for art, breakout boxes and other visuals to make it a colorful front page. And we have new and improved banners for our Happenings and Sports sections.
