A group of residents is planning to address the City Council on Monday about the ongoing cutting of ficus trees in their neighborhood, where officials have cut a number of trees in recent weeks to protect sewer lines.

Laura Du Bow, a resident of Andaman Lane near the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, said she has polled people around her neighborhood for their views on cutting the trees, and more than half have responded that they want the city to leave the trees alone. She understands the city’s concerns, she said, but believes there are ways to please both sides.

“We’re not like most neighborhoods who say, ‘Cut them, fix the sidewalks and our curbs and gutters,’” Du Bow said. “We’re a majority that says, ‘Keep them and fix our curbs and gutters.’”

The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
