Sounding Off: Coming back to the canyon

Four years ago, June 1, 2005, our lives changed dramatically as Flamingo Road and the hillside above our Bluebird Canyon home of 21 years came tumbling down to destroy our home and picturesque canyon.

Through the years, we have had many people come to our assistance in the neighborhood, including our friends, city staff, our architect, engineers, designers and many other people. We want to extend our utmost appreciation to all of those who have helped us to reach the beginning of our project.

Most notably, we want to thank Horst Noppenberger, Chris Meddock and Horst architects for providing us with the outstanding home design and plans, and Robert Lawson ( Lawson-Burke) structural engineers for the structural design, and Steve Kawaratani for our landscape design.

We also want to extend our appreciation to Elizabeth Pearson, Anne Johnson, Ken Frank and Monica Tuchscher, and all city staff for any assistance they have provided to help us obtain permits, and housing over the last four years.

We also have found Robin and Michael Young (Young Building Corp.), who will help us achieve the dream of rebuilding this newly designed Horst home, and hopefully we will be back in our home by the summer 2010.

We will be breaking ground soon, and look forward to returning to our Bluebird Canyon neighborhood.
