Sage Hill School junior A.J. Wolfson earned a share of the Academy League MVP award for helping the Lightning to their second straight baseball league championship.

Wolfson kept Sage Hill’s title hope alive in the regular-season finale. Wolfson belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh against rival St. Margaret’s, tying the game at 8-8.

The Lightning (16-5, 12-3 in league) went on to win the game to split the league title with Oxford Academy.

Sage Hill advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division VI playoffs for the second straight year.

Wolfson hit .474 with 29 runs batted in, nine doubles and three home runs. He had a .789 slugging percentage and a .557 on-base percentage.

Wolfson also pitched 14 2/3 innings, posting a 4.77 earned-run average.

Wolfson shared the MVP with Oxford Academy’s Cameron Bedard.

Sage Hill junior pitcher Alex Jimenez earned first-team honors. The right-hander finished 10-2 with a 2.50 ERA, and struck out 46 in 56 innings. He walked only 16.

At one point during the season, Jimenez won eight straight starts.

Sage Hill players making the second team were senior first baseman Christopher Griffin (.483 average, 29 RBIs, 10 doubles), junior catcher Dusty Orrantia (.387, 24 RBIs), junior utility player Sean Vogel (.312, 32 runs, 16 of 16 stolen –base attempts), sophomore outfielder Allen Brown (.349, 12 RBIs) and junior shortstop Mo Kreitenberg (.290, 19 RBIs).
