Steve Conway, a Newport Beach native playing in his first U.S. Open, shot nine over par through two rounds to miss the cut by five strokes.

Conway, who finished tied for 117th place, started the first round with two pars, but had two bogeys and two double bogeys in the next four holes and finished the first round at 10-over-par 80.

In the second round, Conway started with three birdies on holes one through three to get within three strokes of the projected cut, but bogeys on Nos. 5, 7 and 9 raised his score back to 10-over-par.
