Dr. Robert G. Andrews passed

on to the Lord on June ,8,

2009. Dr Andrews was a

resident of Newport Beach for

over 45 years and was a highly

respected and beloved, pediatric

dentist. His last years were

enjoyed in Sebastopol, California.

In August of 2007, Dr

Andrews, while at home, experienced

a fall. Recovery was

long and eventually confined

him to a wheelchair. This Monday morning, with his wife

Patricia at his side, he gently slipped away.

Dr. Andrews was born in Hawaii on December 17, 1921.

His childhood was spent in LaVerne, California, where

he attended Bonita High School and Chaffey College.

He continued his education at the University of Southern

California School of Dentistry. Upon his graduation

in 1944, he was commissioned Lieutenant and served

as a dental officer in the U.S. Navy until 1946. He then

joined the dental practice of his father, the late Charles

L. Andrews, in Costa Mesa, California. His kindness,

sensitivity and caring for the needs of children guided

him as he served multiple generations of children for over

40 years until he retired in 1987 and moved to Northern

California.

Dr. Andrews entered the faculty of the University of

Southern California School of Dentistry in 1953. His

passion for teaching, research and clinical care earned

him accolades not only on the local scene, but on the

international stage, as well. He became the Chairman of

the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in 1962 and within

a short 5 years he established the first advanced pediatric

dental residency and fellowship program on the west

coast. He was a pioneer in the field of dentistry for children

with special health care needs. His advocacy efforts

opened doors that gave access to care for underserved and

underprivileged children through out California.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Leslie

Howell (Richard) of Santa Rosa; Lucia Andrews of Coeur

d’Alene, Idaho; Malcolm Andrews of Santa Rosa; six

grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces

and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Brian

Lucas Andrews.
