Nicholson named MVP of league

Corona del Mar High senior Camden Nicholson earned the Pacific Coast League’s MVP award in boys’ golf after helping the Sea Kings claim the league championship with a 10-0 record.

Mike Moorhead and John Davenport were two freshmen Sea Kings selected to the first team. CdM finished 18-2 overall.

The three Sea Kings finished in the top six at the Pacific Coast League individual tournament and qualified for the CIF Southern Section individual tournament at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach.

Moorhead won the league’s individual title at Mile Square Golf Course in Fountain Valley, recording a two-day total of 11-under-par 133, his career best for a 32-hole event.

Nicholson placed second with a 138 total and Davenport was sixth at 150.

Out of the three CdM golfers recognized, Moorhead went the furthest in the postseason.

Moorhead reached the CIF Southern California Golf Assn. Regional Championship, the precursor to state. He missed the cut, shooting a two-over-par 74 at the SCGA Members Golf Course in Murrieta.
