They called it “a night of hope.” The third annual Pink Tie Ball in Orange County sponsored by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer support group pulled out all the stops, raising $250,000 for local breast health services. More than 400 guests converged upon Costa Mesa’s Noguchi Gardens at the Pacific Arts Plaza to promote the “power of pink.” It is important to note the party was made possible by some 100 volunteers working with Komen Orange County Executive Director Lisa WolterLisa Wolter.

Chairwomen of the evening were Marica Pendjer, Analisa Albert, and Aletha Anderson. Aletha with her husband, Chris Anderson, were honored guests of the evening, with additional special recognition paid to Bette and Wylie Aitken for their unwavering support.

Bluewater Grill hosted the sunset champagne reception followed by a four-course dinner created by Mark Miskiewicz of Crème de la Crème. Tino and his orchestra filled the gardens with swing and the incomparable vocal talent of Sheryl Lee Ralph, one of the original Dream Girls, wowed the crowd.

The Friends of Dorothy were at it again, this time in conjunction with Macy’s for a little early-summer fashion show with the emphasis placed on Orange County swimwear. The evening party in the Impulse Department at Macy’s South Coast Plaza helped raise $45,000 benefiting AIDS Services Foundation of Orange County.

A dozen men and women from the Los Angeles-based Otto Modeling Agency showed off the “hautest” fashions as music from Men Alive, Orange County’s gay men’s chorus, pushed the tempo higher. Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens served as honorary chairwoman on hand for the fun with guild founder Barbara Venezia of Newport Beach, Macy’s Vice President Sue Graham and major supporters, including Phil Yaeger, Maria Marquez, Dee W. Leve and Ginger Bruleye.

From the chorus to a mother-daughter fashion show, The Crowd covers life on the Riviera beyond imagination. Fashion Island joined forces with moms from the Corona del Mar Middle School for an annual event at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa. Twenty gorgeous young ladies and their exquisite mothers put on a show of shows featuring Lola Rouge, Trina Turk, Betsy Johnson, American Rag and Bloomies fashions for the season. Hair by Toni & Guy and makeup by Space NK at Bloomingdales completed the look. The Fashion Fusion was chaired by Sandy Johnson and Lauren Mulveney.

It was cocktail time at Charlie Palmer’s as General Manager Ahmed Labbate welcomed the midweek crush who came to raise a glass honoring the work of Tiger Woods and his Orange County-based foundation for kids. The evening was a kick-off for the upcoming fifth annual Tiger Woods Block Party, which will once again fill the Grove of Anaheim to the rafters Oct. 17. Chef Amar Santana served bluefin tuna tartare and green olive and gruyere fritters to the crowd mingling with Tiger’s mom, Kultida Woods, and local supporters Bob and Carolyn Waltos, Jennifer Condas, Bill Peters, Werner and Elaine Escher, Brian and Lori Hirth and Tiger Wood’s Foundation President Greg McLaughlin.

THE CROWD runs Thursdays and Saturdays.
