A search for clues, and arts funding

Participants in Overture Young Professionals fifth-annual scavenger hunt jetted around Newport Harbor in electric boats to answer questions about local landmarks Saturday.

Proceeds from the event will go toward establishing an arts education fund for the Balboa Performing Arts Theater.

“We thought it would be nice to bring an educational component to the theater and donate all of the profits from the scavenger hunt, that way they can start an education program for kids,” said Christopher Trela, an organizer for the event.

The nearly 100-year-old Balboa Theater is slated to undergo renovations and become a 320-seat performing arts venue.

Overture Young Professionals is an Orange County-based nonprofit that raised money to support arts education programs.
