Davey, Frieberg lead Tars

Newport Harbor High catcher Blake Davey and center fielder Dillan Freiberg have earned first-team All-Sunset League honors in baseball.

The juniors led the Sailors to a 9-16 record, 4-11 in league, tying them for fourth place in league.

For the first time since joining the league in 2007, Newport Harbor beat Edison and Los Alamitos, the league’s two champions the past two years.

Davey batted .485 with five home runs, 15 runs batted in and 16 hits. He finished with five doubles.

Freiberg, who earned second-team honors last year, batted .341 with one home run, six RBIs, two doubles and one triple.

Newport Harbor junior outfielder Kyle Cablay earned second-team honors. He batted .325 with four RBIs and one double.
