District saves money on medical plans

A recent decision by the Orange County Vector Control District Board of Trustees will save more than $2.5 million in taxpayer levies over the next several years by reducing the district retirees’ medical plan.

The district, designed to protect public health through controlling rats, mosquitoes and other pests, will be reducing its benefit assessment levy from $5.10 per year to $5.06 for the 2009-10 fiscal year. This will be the fifth consecutive reduction in the benefit assessment for the district.

City Councilman Joe Carchio represents Huntington Beach on the district’s board.

“I commend the district and its employees on their outstanding cooperation on enacting needed changes and reform,” Carchio said in a news release. He said he plans to work closely with the organization to guarantee its efficiency and effectiveness.
