Huntington Beach diver’s body found in ocean near Palos Verdes

Investigators are working to determine how a Huntington Beach diver was killed after his body was found in the ocean off Palos Verdes.

The man has not been identified because his family has not yet been notified of his death, a representative of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said Monday afternoon. His body was found Sunday morning.

Authorities were called Saturday night after the diver did not meet a friend as planned. His car was found in a parking lot with no dive gear in it, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Rescue workers from the Coast Guard, Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol searched more than 72 square miles of ocean. Investigators suspect he had been diving near Malaga Cove.
