Tips to be matched for Marines

Dan Marcheano will return to the site of his original restaurant in Newport Beach today as a guest bartender during a fundraiser for the U.S. Marines.

Rick John and David Pyle, two local businessmen, have agreed to match the bartenders’ tips and donate the money to the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, which the city adopted as its own.

The fundraiser will begin at 5 p.m. at A Restaurant at 3334 W. Coast Hwy., Newport Beach.

Marcheano had been the proprietor of Arches restaurant for 25 years when he moved the restaurant to a new location in 2007. Marcheano turned the building over to famed Hollywood producer Joseph McGinty Nichol (better known as McG), who changed the eatery’s name to A Restaurant.
