Police are not ruling out a bag full of dead animals found in Newport Beach last week as the latest SanterÃa surprise for someone to find washed up on the sand.

Police received a call from lifeguards July 7 that a garage bag full of dead animals had washed ashore on 68th Street. The bag contained six dead ducks and three dead doves. The three doves were headless but none of the animals showed any other sides of trauma, said Lt. Craig Fox.

Police said they could not rule out it is the result of local SanterÃa religion followers, but said no similar findings have been reported of late.
