Little League teams to begin sectionals

A pair of District 62 champion teams from Ocean View Little League, as well as a 10/11 team from Huntington Valley, will begin play at the double-elimination Section 10 tournament Saturday.

The Ocean View 9/10 team, managed by Jeff Pratto, will play District 55 at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocean View’s own Murdy Park.

Huntington Valley’s 10/11 squad, managed by Jim Coburn, will take on the District 55 champion at noon Saturday at the South Mission Viejo Little League fields.

Ocean View’s 11/12 team, managed by Tod Minato, faces the District 55 champion 1 p.m. Saturday at the East Anaheim National Little League fields. All tournaments continue through either Tuesday or Wednesday.

HB High to hold baseball camp

The Huntington Beach High baseball program is hosting a youth baseball camp Monday, starting at 1 p.m. at the Huntington Beach High varsity field.

Instruction to kids ages 10-14 will be given by varsity coaches, including head coach Benji Medure, who helped lead the Oilers to the CIF Southern Section Division II final last month. Cost is $125. For more information, call Medure at (951) 764-9411 or e-mail benji172001@yahoo.com.

Lifeletics camps approaching

The Lifeletics summer baseball camp begins the first of five installments next week, Monday through July 24, at Wardlow Park.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. Cost is $195, or $375 for two siblings.

Hecht earns all-state softball recognition

Edison High junior-to-be Allyson Hecht made the all-state softball underclassman second team, as named by Calhisports. Hecht, a first-team All-Sunset League selection at pitcher, was an integral part of a Chargers team that won a share of its first league title in 26 years and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division I quarterfinals.

She finished the year 11-3 with a 0.88 earned-run average, striking out 124 in 104 innings. Hecht was one of 15 players from Orange County to earn all-state recognition.

Tennis players in War by the Shore

Local tennis players are competing this week in the 20th annual Balboa Bay Club Junior Tournament in Newport Beach, better known as the “War by the Shore.”

Among Huntington Beach-area locals left in the draw as of Tuesday: Katie Cecil (girls’ 16 doubles); Roxanne Galich (g18 singles); Parker Glore (b18s, b18d); Laura Kaufman (g16s); Catherine Nguyen and Kala Johnson (g18d); Eric Nguyen (b12s); Evan Nguyen (b14s, b14d); Beau Pelletier (b10s); Jacqueline Pelletier (g12s, g14d); Hahn Pham (g10s) and Thao Pham (g16s).

The tournament continues through Friday.
