City Council to review yacht club contract

The Huntington Beach City Council will discuss Monday whether or not to renew its 30-year agreement with the Huntington Harbour Yacht Club.

The club has been contracted with the city now since 1977, only 10 years after the yacht club opened its doors. The agreement was for 30 years with a built-in clause for an additional 30-year renewal.

The club and the city share a symbiotic relationship by which the club pays into the city’s coffers and provides services to the local community, including the Parade of Lights and discounts to the Boys and Girls Club. In return, the city supports the yacht club’s financial endeavors and provides it with free parking at City Hall and exoneration from parking tickets during scheduled events.

Shirley Wallace, the yacht club’s events planner, said she and her colleagues are all for the renewal and look forward to the vote Monday. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.
