McEnroe coming to Newport

John McEnroe is the latest marquee player to visit Newport Beach.

The last two Grand Slam champions have fallen.

Michael Chang. Andre Agassi. Is McEnroe next?

The way Ramon Delgado is playing for the Breakers, it looks likely.

Delgado rallied Newport Beach Sunday, clinching a World Team Tennis playoff spot for the Breakers in the final set. The reigning WTT Male MVP will try to finish off McEnroe and the New York Sportimes tonight at Breakers Stadium at Newport Beach Country Club at 7:05.

Delgado has lifted Newport Beach (8-4) to its first postseason since 2006.

McEnroe, 50, has led New York (9-3) to the Eastern Conference title and the playoffs.

Newport Beach closes out the regular season at home against the Kansas City Explorers on Wednesday. Maria Sharapova is the marquee player for the Breakers.

It appears Delgado has earned the honor of being some team’s marquee player. He gets another shot to prove himself against a former No. 1 player.
